Ever flip through a magazine (do people do that anymore), or scroll through your IG feed asking yourself, “why don’t my outfits look like that?” when you’ve basically replicated the ‘fit multiple times? Well, the simple answer is that maybe you’re not accessorizing enough! We’re not talking about statement chains and huge bangle bracelets here. Subtle layered necklaces and rings could make a major difference in completing an outfit and making it absolutely IG-worthy. Confused? Don’t worry- we’re breaking down how to accessorize outfits here so you can leave the heavy lifting to us.
Necklaces are having a moment right now and we’re so glad. Out with the clunky old statement necklaces from 6 years ago–those days are over. In with daintier gold necklaces, layered purposefully but still looking like we literally just threw them on.
To layer necklaces like these, simply find a variety of the same metal with different pendants, lengths, and even different chain thickness. You can layer longer necklaces or short necklaces–or both. Really, the rules are what you make it. Pick out what you like and start stacking! You may be uncomfortable at first if you’re not used to accessorizing, but trust us, accessories really do make the outfit.
A tip we love to use is piling on a few necklaces on an otherwise plain outfit. You know, when you have one of those t-shirt & jeans days and don’t want to fuss. Layered necklaces over a basic tee are just perfect.
If you’re itching to do something a little different or want to work with what you got, mixing metals is totally chic! It’s a little more interesting having a mixture of hues and textures, so don’t be afraid to sport your fav silver rings with your gold necklaces.
We love mixing long lariat necklaces with shorter lengths too to keep things interesting. If you find yourself with a plunging top, these are great to make you feel a little less naked. They’re also great if you’re lacking some cleavage and want to create the illusion of one but tying things together!
Ring sets can really up your accessory game in a big way. Ever see someone wear a slew of rings on their hands and admire as they are making coffee or literally doing anything with their hands? It’s absolutely mesmerizing! We’re obsessed.
For this, it’s always great (and easier) to buy a ring set–a set of rings that already match and go together. Wear them all together, or even break up the set and mix some gold dainty rings with antique silvers. You’ll love the juxtaposition of the metals!
Rings can be a challenge if you’re not used to wearing them. Some people prefer dainty minimalist rings to more statement-making ones, or even more boho looks with stones and jewels. Find what works for you and your sexy hands & chic style!
