As the weather cools down, it seems like the music scene is only getting started. While we love today’s hits, we’re always on the lookout for emerging new artists and expanding our playlists to different genres in hopes to find our next “Sweater Weather” anthem or two!
So sip those pumpkin spice lattes (it’s baaaaack) and overload on pumpkin everything. We hope you vibe with these ?? tracks!
Ahh, pop. You’ll probably hear these tracks play on the radio on repeat (for good reason!).
Soothing pop sounds with the ever so smooth SZA = all the feels.
Maroon 5 (Feat. SZA) – What Lovers Do
Who can’t ignore the pop king, the Biebs. Hate or love him, you might admit this song is pretty f*ing catchy. We’re totally grooving to it here at HQ!
Friends (with Bloodpop) – Justin Bieber
Bryson Tiller and Kehlani are artists we’re always down with, but we’ve got a couple recommendations for some artists that need a little time in our spotlight.
Daniel Caesar – Take Me Away (feat. Syd)
Roy Woods – Get You Good
On our workout playlist and secretly at work, we’ll be makin’ money moves and head bobbing to these artists at our desks.
Cardi B – Bodak Yellow
Vince Staples – Yeah, Right
We’re mixing old and new in folk.
First is Cat Clyde, a brand new artist from Ontario. Her vocals merge a familiar folk sound (reminiscent of Land of Talk and Rilo Kiley) with a refreshing authenticity that makes you feel connected to her songwriting. We suggest listening to “Mama Said” off of her album Ivory Castanets while talking a walk outside.
Cat Clyde – Mama Said
Something old turns into something new. Recorded between 1970 and 1973 and released decades later in 2006, Sibylle Baier’s music is beautifully haunting and melancholic, and absolutely perfect for foggy days and slower moods. Her recordings were first discovered by her son, who then decided to share her music with the world, music that would otherwise be sitting on a shelf in their home tape recordings. Her belated album, Colour Green, will take you through the fall transition with her raw, stripped down melodies and gentle vocals. Sibylle Baier’s music is truly an unearthed treasure.
Sibylle Baier – Tonight
We don’t know a more perfect artist than Perfume Genius. Album after album, frontman Mike Hadreas infuses his music with power and heartbreaking emotion. Rated as The Best New Album of 2017 by Pitchfork, No Shape is more complex and instrumentally bigger than his previous albums. The album is sonic triumph–so listen to the whole thing. Right now.
Perfume Genius – Valley
SOHN – Hard Liquor
SOHN’s sophomore album delivers complex beats, and his opening track “Hard Liquor” will be your new pregame anthem.
Frankie Cosmos’ diaristic tunes detail her intimate observations on love, friendship, and other musings, grounded by sweet guitar and bass lines. Her album Next Thing is perfect for road trips, breakups, and everything in between.
Frankie Cosmos – Too Dark
“Thinking of A Place” by the War on Drugs has an unmistakable Bob Dylan sound to it. This 11-minute track is great for long drives and a good cure for fall/winter blues. It will instantly lift your spirits.
The War on Drugs – Thinking of A Place
For classic country sound with a pop twist, Jessie James Decker is someone you should be listening to.
Jessie James Decker – Lights Down Low
Electronic has a wide range of subsets within it–bangers, trap, indie–you name it. We’re happy to introduce a couple of our faves here!
If you love the sound of music from the likes of Jai Wolf and Ta-Ku, you’ll love Empty Room (the original and this remix by Cabu). Its mellow beats and ethereal vocals (by Yuna) make it something we can dig in a car ride or as we’re chilling at work.
Empty room – Big Wild, Yuna (Cabu remix)
If you’re in search of something with more intense drops reminiscent of Zedd, check out this one by Jauz & Crankdat. You’ll be jumping up onto your feet with this one (it’s also perf for HIIT workouts)!
I Hold Still – Jauz x Crankdat
Sometimes music doesn’t need words. Instrumentals can be the best thing to remedy a scattered brain–check these out.
Mister Roll – A Song of India
Brasstracks – XO Tour Llif3
Because we shouldn’t just limit you to domestic options, check out these international songs! You might not be familiar with the languages here, but music is a language it its own, right? Sit back and enjoy!
Y La Bamba – Ojos del Sol
Clea Vincent – Jmy attendais pas
First day of September be like…
September – Earth, Wind, & Fire
George Harrison – Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let it Roll)
Whatever genre you’re groovin’ to, we hope this playlist adds some extra magic to the soundtrack of your life this fall. We’re going to make this a regular thing–stay tuned for more music recommendations from ya girls at Tobi Blog!
