Summer isn’t just about taking vacations and posting selfies of yourself drinking the fruitiest summer cocktails. It’s about trying new trends in the style world.

 

For celebrities, summer is the perfect time to show off their street style and red carpet style by putting their own spin on what’s trending. Sometimes they have the help of personal stylists, and sometimes they impress with their own interpretations of fashion.

 

This summer, we saw lots of skin, thanks to the off shoulder look. Bare tummies were showed off with tie tops that knotted at the waist, and there was no shortage of stripes. Details like ruffles and statement sleeves made appearances, as did denim pieces. The pajama wear trend was still going strong as well, and we saw pieces that were designed to show off legs with a shorter front side, and a longer appearance in the back. There were lots of pieces in pastel and feminine colors, but this didn’t take away from the impact the pieces had on celebrity style.

 

Here are some of the ways celebrities took summer style to a killer level this year.

 

Off the Shoulder

 

This look has “sexy” written all over it. Chrissy Teigen shows off her chest and shoulders with an off-shoulder top that is cropped in front and has a full-length layer in the back. Paired with her ripped jeans and over-the-knee boots, she shows just enough skin to be sexy without being trashy.

Also rocking the off-shoulder look is Selena Gomez, who donned a pastel blue gingham suit with matching pumps. The pant pockets and button down style of the top make this ensemble professional, yet classy. With her loosely styled locks and natural looking makeup, Selena adds just enough casual to this corporate looking attire.

 

In a frilly, floral, feminine romper, Kendall Jenner is doing the one-shoulder trend with a ruffle element mixed in. Her seaside getup shows off her legs and shoulders, while her white sneakers tone down the look and give it a sporty feel. A ponytail nicely ties everything together while giving her neck a little attention too.

Waist Tie

Combining the waist-tie trend with a bold stripe, Chloe Grace Moretz shows off just a peek of her stomach and her arms.  She keeps the look casual, yet girly, with a simple pair of heel sandals and a small chain quilted bag. Her flowing blonde hair pairs well with the outfit.

Everyday jeans and a denim jacket frame Lily Collins‘ striped and knotted tee in a fashionable way. Her rolled up sleeves create more detail and those aviator style sunglasses make her look totally hip. Casual sneakers pull the outfit together, and her un-styled hair completes the look.

While running errands in NYC, Victoria Justice wore a pair of cuffed jeans and a white top that ties at the waist. Adding a pop of color and sass, she chose a pair of heeled sandals. With just the right amount of details, her large hoop earrings are more than enough to mix in a hint of shine, and her simple hairstyle keeps her look natural and simple.

Sleepwear

 

With hints of shimmer and shine, Rihanna does the pajama trend in a gorgeous blue color. Her gold jewelry and heels take the glam factor up a notch, making her pajamas look nothing like sleepwear. Her exposed chest shows just enough skin to be sexy while still leaving something to the imagination.

Gigi Hadid pulled off a green and white striped pajama set on the streets of NYC. Her strappy white heels make the look more appropriate for daytime, but her casual ponytail tones things down.

If anyone can pull off wearing pajamas in public, Kim Kardashian can. She chose a dark silky pants and robe set that offers a peek of her toned chest. A slicked back ponytail keeps the look sophisticated and her simple shoes maintain the laid back vibe of the ensemble.

Ruffles

 

While shopping on Melrose Place, Vanessa Hudgens wore a simple outfit that features just the right amount of details. The peplum ruffle top with statement sleeves frames her upper body and draws attention to her waist, while her jeans give the look a slight grunge factor. The matching bag and pointed toe flats keep the outfit pulled together.

Jada Pinkett Smith is rockin’ ruffles galore with this canary yellow dress she wore in Beverly Hills. With all the details of the dress, it’s nice to see her keep the jewelry to a minimum. Her toned chest looks amazing, and her heels give her some height to create a fun and feminine look that would even work on the runway.
